A logo or packaging artwork is an artistic work used or capable of being used in relation to goods or services – which means one extra legal step applies before copyright registration can proceed.
Before applying for copyright on a logo or artistic work used in relation to goods or services, the law requires you to first obtain a Clearance/Search Certificate – commonly called a Trademark NOC – from the Trade Marks Registry. Only after this certificate is issued can the copyright application itself be filed.

We review your logo, label or packaging artwork, ownership, authorship and supporting documents before filing. Any Author, Publisher or other NOCs, assignment documents, or additional supporting evidence are identified upfront.
We apply to the Trade Marks Registry in Form TM-C for the Search Certificate required under Section 45(1) of the Copyright Act. If the Registry raises any requirement or objection at this stage, our response is coordinated on your behalf, on your written authorisation.
Once the Search Certificate is available, we prepare and file your copyright application in Form XIV, together with the Statement of Particulars, Statement of Further Particulars and required supporting documents.
The Copyright Office carries out formality and substantive examination. We track this examination and handle any discrepancy letters or objections on your behalf, on your written authorisation – including hearing support, where the Registrar schedules one before a decision.
Once the Registrar is satisfied, your work is entered in the Register of Copyrights. We follow your application through to the issuance of your Copyright Registration Certificate, with status updates throughout.
